Protecting your assets when it's time to move to your next destination.
Leaving Switzerland requires just as much strategic planning as arriving. Without proper preparation, you may face unexpected tax consequences on your accumulated wealth and pension assets.
Whether you are returning home or moving to a new international posting, our cross-border specialists ensure your wealth remains protected. We guide you through the deregistration process, the final tax return, and the efficient restructuring of your global assets.
When you leave and withdraw your Pillar 2 or 3a, the withdrawal is taxed at source by the canton where the pension foundation resides, which is often heavily taxed.
We proactively move your pension assets to a foundation in a low-tax canton (like Schwyz) prior to withdrawal, legally minimizing the exit tax.
Failing to coordinate your Swiss deregistration with your new country’s arrival date can expose your pension lumpsums or asset sales to taxation in both jurisdictions.
We map out the exact timing of your withdrawal and arrival, utilising double taxation treaties to ensure your capital lands safely without triggering unnecessary liabilities.

If you move outside the EU/EFTA, you can generally withdraw your full Pillar 2 and 3a. If you move to an EU/EFTA country, the mandatory portion of your Pillar 2 must remain blocked in Switzerland, but the rest can be withdrawn.
Withdrawals are subject to withholding tax based on the location of the pension foundation. By transferring your funds to a vested benefits account in a low-tax canton (e.g., Schwyz) before leaving, you can minimise this tax.
